Signal boosting to anyone else who's participating in [community profile] fandom_stocking (or anyone who's not, but is looking for fic-writing ideas), there are still a few needy stockings that need filling here.

In related news, I have just written an incredibly smutty piece of fiction for a pairing I don't think I've ever even read, so, uh. That was interesting. And it was het, too. I haven't written smutty het fic in ages. I will discuss more after the reveals, which will hopefully be on Saturday.

Main fandom of this year: A three-way tie between Agent Carter, Stranger Things, and Teen Wolf

Favorite film watched this year: Thor: Ragnarok

Favorite book read this year: 11/22/63, by Stephen King. Largely for the nostalgia factor: I used to love King's stuff, but I haven't read him in ages.

Favorite album/song(s) listened to this year: Eh, nothing new that really sticks, but I recently got back into classic protest rock, which was fun

Favorite TV show/s this year: Agent Carter, always. Leverage, Stranger Things, Teen Wolf

Favorite new shows this year: Teen Wolf, which was new to me, anyway.

Favorite characters this year: Peggy Carter, as always

Favorite villains this year: Frank Dunning, who was terrifying in such an intimately believable way, as so many of King's villains are.

Favorite fictional couples this year: Daniel/Jack/Peggy, Sterek, Jonathan/Nancy/Steve

Favorite fictional relationships this year: Stiles and Scott. I just love their friendship so much. Honorable mention to Steve and Dustin

Most unexpected new fandom: Teen Wolf. I tried it years ago and bounced off it hard, mostly because it reminded me a bit too much of Supernatural, but I really fell headfirst into the fandom/show this year.

Biggest fandom disappointment of the year: Infinity War. Although I was pretty thoroughly spoiled for it by the time I actually watched it.

Biggest squee moment of the year: IMMIGRANT SONG IN THOR RAGNAROK

Most missed old fandom: I will probably always mourn Supernatural. Agent Carter fandom seems to finally be fading out, which is expected but still makes me sad.

Potential new fandoms: Nothing so far! I've been watching The Good Place, but it doesn't feel like something I'm likely to get into the fandom for. I did get a whole pile of recommendations on
this post, though, so I've got options

My Fic

OH GOD I WROTE SO MUCH THIS YEAR. And this isn't even counting the original fic, which I'm still slogging through to the end of. So. Yeah. This might take a while!

Cut because this got LONG )

Another three-sentence ficlet:

Narnia, Cor/Aravis & Corin, an uncertain trio

ETA: and another one, because why not: Supernatural; Dean Winchester; kidnapped by a serial killer and entirely unimpressed about it

(I am doing so bad with the writing lately; Christmas is kicking my ass. But I'm trying to do a little every day at least.)

Just finished watching The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo. So. Cute redheaded lesbian? Check. Harry Potter references? Check. Princess Leia tattoos? Check check check (Comicon. COMICON!).

Also, Charlie has no idea how to chat up a guy, but Dean is apparently a pro. For some reason.

God, I forgot how much I love this show.

So, I've been doing my yearly re-read of Lord of the Rings (yes, I know. Shut up.), which naturally coincides with my yearly quest to find some decent fic. I keep doing this, even though I have a tiny handful of fics that I keep returning to because most of what's out there (at least for the characters I want to read about, namely hobbits) all seems to pretty much suck.

There's a fair amount of slash out there, of course, but I'm not really partial to any slash pairings involving any combination of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Partly, because three of the aforementioned hobbits are cousins and even after all this time in SPN I tend to find incest more squicky than romantic. In the case of Frodo/Sam, I just can't seem to see it in their relationship, although I've seen a handful of fics that handle it well (also, more generally, I find it annoying when the main argument for the pairing is 'but they're so devoted to each other; they MUST be screwing!' Like a pairing or don't like it on its own merits, but it's possible for two people to love each other fiercely without sex ever entering into the equation).

The problem, of course, is that there's this whole other side of LOTR fandom where the attitude is more...archaic. Like, 'This takes place in Ye Olden Days, therefore it's impossible for any of the characters to be gay, and also it's an insult to Tolkien's memory if you suggest they are.'

If there's a middle ground between hobbit orgies and gen writers who are defensive liek whoa about their TOTAL LACK OF ANY GAYNESS, I have yet to find it.

Guys, I think I've finally managed to get burnt out on SPN. I haven't even watched 7.01 yet... I suspect I will eventually, but IDK how much more of the trauma conga line I'm going to be able to deal with. I think I need to find a show where the heroes actually win occasionally.

Either that, or just go get massively spoilered for every episode before I watch it so I don't get blindsided by "just when you thought things couldn't get worse...GOTCHA!"

I feel like I'm in mourning or something. :/

[livejournal.com profile] smilla02  has written a fucking amazing story for one of my prompts on [livejournal.com profile] spn_rambleon :

The Black Line Below Me
It's not about money.

GO READ IT.

So, this made my day a little better.

Especially since the mods are clearly so unnerved by the whole thing.

So, apparently this is going on. Naturally, there are little mini fandom wars going on in the comments, as well as all the non-fandom people recoiling in horror from the scary, scary slash fans taking over their poll. XDD

Me, I'm sitting here cackling like a lunatic. Normally, I could give two shits about SpoilerTV polls, but this is just too fucking awesome, and not even because it makes my D/C-shipping little heart happy.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] spnanonhaven nonnies:

Seriously, I have better things to do with my time than troll every single author thread ever posting self-recs.

Like I said, my ass was gonna be in that seat for 6.01, no matter what. So, anyway, I have thoughts, which are cut to spare flists from my semi-coherent crawling-up-my-own-ass rambling.

Rant, ramble, etc... )

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] naatz , who pulls it off much better:

If you read this, you're tagged. Take a picture of you in your current state, no changing your clothes or quickly putting on makeup. NO PHOTOSHOP. Show your f-list the real you!

Sadly, yes, I was already wearing the hat. )

Also:

Here! Have five random snippets from five stories I may or may not actually finish writing:

Writing ADD! )

And finally, so this isn't completely an exercise in OTT self-indulgence, have a drabble:

Title: The Worst Thing
It's still the worst thing. Warnings for general Dean angst, predictability, total lack of a point. )

Dear flist:

SPN fandom has killed my brain. Or rather, [livejournal.com profile] spnkink_meme  has killed my brain. I dislike wincest, rarely write porn, and am in the middle of thirty billion other projects right now. And I don't like kink memes.

And yet, I have just posted a thousand words of explicit Sam/Dean porn. And I might write more of it.

Kill me now.

The Protectors of the Plot Continuum.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the PPC, this is kind of what the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would read like if it was written by several dozen over-caffeinated MST-happy fangirls with an even more warped sense of humor that Douglas Adams.

It is a thing of singular beauty.

I started reading the Department of Technical Errors missions years ago, and now I'm going happily kersploosh in the madness again. It's kind of a welcome break from the nonstop melodrama that is SPN. :)

I'm aware that this has been going on for the better part of two weeks by now, and that everybody who's going to hear about it probably already has. The author in question has been taken pretty thoroughly to task, so I'm not going to go there. I will say that I skimmed the fic and that the criticism has been, in my eyes, entirely apt.

Two things:

1. 'Racist' is not an insult. Really, it's not. Calling someone out on racist behavior (and yeah, it's happened to me and yeah, I get that it sucks to feel like the bad guy) is not the same thing as 'calling them names'. It's saying, 'Hey. You did this thing, and it was racist. It offended people. Maybe you didn't mean it to be offensive, maybe you really didn't know better, maybe you just didn't think it through--whatever. It was still offensive. People were offended, whether you meant them to be or not.'

Ignorance is not an excuse, and the fact that you may not consciously hold any racist attitudes doesn't mean that you are exempt from the possibility of ever doing something racist.

2. Apologies work better if they are genuine and unqualified. This means you don't get to make excuses for your behavior (unless those excuses include 'somebody held a gun to my head and made me post this'), you just say that you fucked up, and you're sorry. If you can let go of your defensiveness long enough, it's a big fucking step toward alleviating any hurt you've caused. Also, pretending it never happened or that you weren't really wrong or that there's some mitigating circumstance that makes it all okay does not actually help your reputation in fandom. You become that writer not just by writing offensive fic, but by refusing to acknowledge that you really did anything wrong.

That's all I'm going to say on the subject.

Does the fact that I'm already scouring the internet for Eliot/Hardison fic mean that fandom is rotting my brain?
