Seen around; created by [personal profile] china_shop

Look at the most recent 20 fanwork titles on your AO3 account.

(Also, as an odd note: there have been times when I would have had to go back years for this. Right now, 20 fanworks back takes me to February of this year.)

1. How many are you happy with? 9

2. How many are... not great? 5 (the rest are...serviceable. Not great, but not cringe-worthy either)

3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute? ....all but one

4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning? 1

5. How many are quotes from songs or poems? 4, which is kind of surprising for me

6. How many are other quotes? 0

7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?
Probably a tie between Birthday Dinner and A Damn Fine Cup of Coffee, both of which are...well. Self-explanatory.

8. Which best reflects the theme of the story/fanwork?
Jack of Spades. LOOK, it's METAPHORICAL

9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the fanwork?
stand me up at the gates of hell, which I feel is pretty apropos for a post-S3 Billy POV AU.

10. Which is your favourite?
Spinning, Unspun. I don't even know why, really.

SSR Confidential reveals are up!

I haven't really had a chance to read most of the collection, but my gift was lovely!

Backup by WhiteLadyoftheRing
Jack is a terrible spy, by Peggy's standards.

Just absolutely gorgeous OT3 hurt/comfort with the perfect mixture of sweetness and bite. Go give it a read!

*

True to form, I wrote OT3 sex pollen get-together fic. XD
Risks and Consequences (Daniel/Jack/Peggy; sex pollen aftermath)
Jack was a man who guarded his heart like a hand of poker.

Bidding for the [community profile] equalityauction is open! I'm offering fic of ~1500 words (more if bidding goes over $25) for any of my usual fandoms, or almost anything else that's on my AO3 page.

You can find my offer here. The rest of the bidding offers are here, and the buy-it-now offers are here.

I actually remembered to sign up this year! And I'm going to *try* to actually get a bingo this time. A lot of these are things I haven't really written before, so that should be interesting!

So, I've been back to work this week. It's a little weird; we're keeping it at a skeleton staff, which means essentially that I'm there in the evenings with one other person in the entire building. Another piece of relevant data: my library is in a converted Victorian mansion, complete with a tower and a maze of a stone basement with three hidden rooms and a couple of doors blocked behind shelving that lead to nowhere in particular.

Basically, it's a little creepy in the evening if there's nobody else around. Or if the only other person around is two floors down and most of the lights in the hallway are out because the circuitry is also ancient and having too many things on at a time will blow the circuit and necessitate me wandering into the depths of the catacombs under the building to reset it if I happen to try to turn my window AC unit on. And there are a lot of strange odds and ends to be found in the attic and the basement and in random little closets and rooms.

All of which is to say that my boss found this fucking gigantic stuffed bear and stuck it in the window outside my office overlooking Main Street, and it has been giving me a heart attack every single time I walk down the hallway and catch sight of it out the corner of my eye. If it's still there on Monday, I'm going to leave it behind his desk for him to find in the morning.

Hurt/Comfort exchange reveals are up! I.... totally forgot to sign up for this, but I ended up writing a bunch of treat fics and picking up a pinch hit anyway, and it was a lot of fun! And there's a lot of really good fic there so go check it out!

Hurt/Comfort Exchange 2020

My fics:

Agent Carter

Spinning, Unspun [Teen; Daniel/Jack/Peggy; established relationship, aftermath of torture, drugging]
They’d gotten him out. Peggy and Daniel had charged in, guns blazing, and they’d gotten him out. And they were still here; they hadn’t vanished into the fog of a fading nightmare and left him alone.

Iron Fist

Jack of Spades [Teen; Danny & Ward; dream-sharing]
The silence seems to swallow his voice. There’s no answer, and it’s only then that he admits to himself how much he was hoping for one. Of course it wasn’t going to be that easy.

Risk Management [Teen; Danny & Ward; accidental soulbond]
Later, Ward will remember things like risk management and cost-benefit analysis and how generally speaking trusting mysterious old women that he meets in strange pockets of reality has historically not gone that well for him. Right now, though, Danny is dying under his hands and consequences are the last thing on his mind.

stumble in my footsteps [Mature; Danny & Ward; blackmail, rape recovery]
Warning: this fic contains references to rape and incest (not between Danny and Ward)
They’re in Seoul when the video uploads to their shared dropbox.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Unmasked [Teen; Illya/Napoleon; aftermath of torture, shaving, first kiss]
Illya is not dead. All of his injuries will heal. There is no reason for Napoleon to be looking at him with that careful, gentle expression on his face.

Title: Interdimensional Problems
Fandoms: Stranger Things & Iron Fist
Pairings: Gen; Robin Buckley & Colleen Wing
Rating: Teen
Warnings: None
Other Tags: Into A Bar
Summary:
There's no rhyme or reason to the list of names. The only thing any of them have in common is that they all went to school in Hawkins, Indiana during the mid-eighties, when a series of bizarre calamities befell that small town.

The same small town where Danny and Ward vanished three days ago, chasing a story about doors to another dimension.

(Or, Colleen Wing and Robin Buckley meet in a bar to talk about dimensional rifts, and to stage a rescue. Written for the Spring 2020 Into A Bar challenge)

Fandom: Stranger Things
Relationships: Billy & Max; Billy & Steve; weird, ambiguous, possibly one-sided Billy/Steve
Warnings: Canon-typical violence, suicidal thoughts
Other tags: Hurt/comfort, Canon-divergent AU, Painful early-redemption narratives
Length: 4300 words
Summary:
Home, he thinks, and tongues at the loose molar in the back of his mouth. That wasn’t the monster’s doing, or his dad’s. That one was all Steve Harrington, delivering a long-overdue ass-kicking via Cadillac convertible. There’s something kinda poetic about it, really.

Or: Billy lives. That's really just the start of his problems.

So, I'm going back to work on Monday. It'll be part-time, at least for now, so we can stagger shifts, and the building will be closed to the public until Phase 4. I also have my own office, so I'm not particularly worried from a contagion standpoint; it's probably safer than grocery shopping at this point.

On the one hand, I'm really suspicious of the timeline of the reopening--cases are still climbing in my county--but on the other hand, holy shit am I ready to go back to work. Or, more accurately, to be able to work somewhere other than a laptop at my kitchen table. I've learned two things about myself in the past three months: (1) I really do not do well without any externally imposed routine and (2) my decision not to be a SAHM was a really fucking solid one.

(I will have to keep doing the bulk of the homeschooling, since my spouse is still working and I'm just going back in the evenings for now, but at least the school year will be over in about 2 weeks. But even just four hours a day out of the house and able to work without being climbed on will make my life easier.)

I got my [community profile] intoabar  prompt:

Robin Buckley walks into a bar and meets... Colleen Wing!

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this yet, but this is the kind of delightful team-up I was hoping for.

I just got off a work videoconference and my boss is starting to look like a very nerdy mountain man, the children’s librarian has set up the architecture for online Harry Potter school through the end of the year, and I have been introduced to no less than four cats, so wfh librarian-ing is proceeding apace.

(I feel a bit bad that I’m not putting together Many Clever Programs, but as I’m also trying to home-school at the same time, I kinda feel like I should be commended for managing to more or less keep my head above water.)

Title: Falling
Fandom: Iron Fist
Pairing: Gen; Ward & Harold, Ward & Danny
Warnings: Falling from a height, Canon-typical violence, Unethical experimentation, Referenced child abuse
Other Tags: Superpowers AU, Telekinesis, Hurt/comfort, Rescue
Summary:
“I have given you an incredible gift,” Harold tells him, settling his hand on Ward’s shoulder, fingers digging in deep. “The least you could do is try to appreciate it.”

Or: Ward has telekinetic abilities. It's not really a big deal, until it is.

 Merry Christmas!

I've been on a bit of a fandom hiatus for the past month, but these are some Christmas/holiday ficlets I've written in various fandoms over the years, because why not:

Safe House [Agent Carter; Teen; Daniel/Jack/Peggy; Hurt/comfort, Canadian shack]
Peggy, Jack, and Daniel spend Christmas holed up in a safe house.

Warm and Bright [Agent Carter; Teen; Daniel/Jack/Peggy; Hurt/comfort, sickness]
Christmas in LA is soggy and Peggy has the flu, but the company couldn't be better.

Fire Escape [Captain America; General; Sam/Steve; Fluff]
It's past midnight when Sam wakes to an empty bed and a soft clattering noise coming from the kitchen.

Solstice [Star Trek TOS; General; Kirk/Spock; Fluff, Pre-relationship]
In which the logic of Christmas lights is discussed.

I was planning on making red velvet cupcakes tomorrow to take down to Spouse's family this weekend, but now Thing 2 has fever and a runny nose (he's being remarkably cheerful about it all so far, at least) and I don't know if we're going after all.

I may still make cupcakes, since I kinda promised Thing 1 we would, but then I need to figure out what I'm going to do with a full giant batch of red velvet cupcakes. I wish I had friends who lived closer. Maybe I'll inflict them on my neighbors.

I haven't been writing much recently, and everything I have written has been either exchange fic or original stuff (I still have half a dozen prompts on Tumblr that I PROMISE I will get to....... eventually).

I always seem to burn out this time of year, both in terms of energy for writing and in terms of actually liking anything I've written, especially since I've been bouncing between three original projects and not really accomplishing all that much on any of them. And working on original novels always feels kind of like a pointless energy sink, because I don't know if they'll ever find an audience other than me.

ANYWAY.

This one in particular is something I've been messing around with on and off for a while, and right now it's one major scene edit from a coherent second draft.

Monster hunters for hire and nefarious schemes! )

I had a GIANT butternut squash in my fridge that was starting to get some suspicious-looking spots on it, so I threw it in a slow cooker along with a bunch of other stuff I had on hand and it actually came out really good. I'm writing the recipe down in case I want to try it again.

SO. Chicken squash slow-cooker soup, lazy-ish style: )

Two prompt ficlets from this week!

Cooking for Beginners
Stranger Things; Steve & Dustin, Thanksgiving, Humor
"Are you sure it's supposed to smell like that?" Dustin asked.

Navigation Lessons
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, Finn/Poe/Rey pre-relationship, Character Study
The thing that Rey never realized about deep space hauls until she was in the middle of one is that—well, they’re boring.

*

I have half a dozen more to write for a variety of fandoms, and I'm excited, especially since I've been writing almost exclusively in a single fandom for most of the year. It'll be fun to branch out!
