Date: 2019-01-28 10:25 pm (UTC)TOO MANY TO COUNT. Fandom is basically entirely guilty pleasures for me, although I guess I don't actually feel all that guilty about most of it.
S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?
Again, too many to count. Bed-sharing/forced proximity, x-made-them-do-it (the angstier iteration, rather than the porny one), HURT/COMFORT, rescues... basically anything that sticks my favorite characters in a really awful situation so they can have Emotions about it is catnip to me.
X: A character you enjoy making suffer.
All of them :D. The more I love a character, the worse things I do to them. Jack Thompson is a perennial favorite, as are Peter Quill and Steve Rogers. I'm pretty much a fan of the Break The Cutie/Break The Stoic tropes. And I usually end up tormenting the male characters more; it's not that I never write H/C focusing on female characters, but I tend to feel like female characters tend to have moments of weakness in canon more often, so I'm less inclined to explore it in fic).
Regarding K... honestly, I usually write my angstiest ideas :D. Although I do seem to be more happy/fluff oriented lately. I used to be all about the darkfic.

Loooooong ago there was a Star Trek Voyager webpage called the "folded, spindled, and mutilated Tom Paris page" about our local blond chew toy. I learned a lot there. :D

Date: 2019-01-30 02:12 am (UTC)Oh, out of order, definitely. This is actually my biggest problem with WIPs and why I don't post them all that often; I have a general tendency to write the end/middle scenes first and then go back and write the beginning. Or just rewrite giant chunks of it, like I'm doing with my current fic...
W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
I like fairly specific prompts, as long as they allow for a little flexibility. I'm not great at plotting, so if it's an idea I'm interested in exploring, it's nice to have an existing frame to hang it on.
ETA: Also, especially on prompt memes, it's a fun challenge to give the prompter EXACTLY THE THING that they wanted. Because people often get very excited about that and I love it.

Date: 2019-01-30 02:23 am (UTC)Yes, but not generally very directly. That is, I've certainly drawn on my experiences to write fic, but most of them aren't really direct corollaries.
I actually think the fic that's most inspired by RL for me was my long-ago SPN big bang fic, We Drank a Thousand Times--not so much the story, since I have sadly never been a monster hunter, but the small town and the OC's were heavily, heavily based on my own experiences growing up.

Okay, this is a long-ish bit from a Teen Wolf fic I wrote last year (A Time to Every Purpose, and no, I'm not really sure what my rationale was for picking that title):
“So,” he says finally, when he’s deemed the silence long and pointed enough. “How long has this been going on?”
“Oh, by ‘this’ do you mean a werewolf with boundary issues sneaking in my window at 3 AM to terrorize me into performing rituals involving gratuitous nudity and non-consensual body art?” Stiles snaps. He’s hunched over the table, the heel of one hand pressed against his forehead, a little like he has a headache and a lot like he’s hoping he’ll just disappear if he concentrates hard enough. “I really wish I could say this is the first time it’s ever happened, but, uh. A while.”
“Non-consensual body art?” Noah repeats, raising his eyebrows. He’s starting to get the feeling that he’s already losing his grip on this conversation.
Hale looks put out. “I asked first.”
“If by ‘asked’ you mean ‘loomed over me in the middle of the night with a knife and a jar of gross-smelling paint’, sure.”
“You say that like you expect me to believe you’re afraid of me.”
“I could be!” Stiles lifts his head and jabs a finger in Hale’s general direction. “Because you’re legitimately terrifying! With the eyebrows and the growling and the—”
“You’re not afraid of me,” Hale says, perfectly confident. “You haven’t been in a long time.”

Dialogue is one of the few things where I'm pretty confident about my writing skills, but I really liked how this came out because there's kind of a lot going on in terms of exposition and character dynamics, and it still (I think) flows pretty smoothly.

Derek: "Whatever, we both know you aren't."
Noah: WTF.

Date: 2019-01-30 02:32 am (UTC)Definitely either characters or setting. I may start with a germ of a scene or a snipped of dialogue, but it's very rare for me to come up with a coherent plot before I start writing, and even when I do I rarely stick with it.
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
I just did this above, but for another long-ish one from a Hawaii Five-0 fic, Full Immunity and Means:
“So,” he says later, in the car. “Bisexual, huh?”
“Really?” Danny snaps, clinging to the grab-handle for dear life as they slalom into oncoming traffic. “Really, now, you want to have this conversation now? Eyes on the road," he adds, several decibels louder, when Steve glances at him.
“Sorry,” Steve offers.
“For being a nosy dick or for the impending vehicular manslaughter?”
“For, you know.” The red Maserati they’re currently chasing blows a tire and starts to list dangerously to the right as they skid around a turn. Amateurs. Steve spins the wheel and accelerates. “For not being as affirming about it as I should have been.”
“Affirming, that’s a great word, did you read that in a book?”
“Jesus, Danny, would you give me a break? I’m trying to apologize here!”
“Well, for the record, you suck at it,” Danny says, and then three armed men pop out of the alley up ahead and start shooting, and for a while they have other things to focus on.

I mostly just like this because I think it's funny, and because I think I did a pretty good job of capturing the rapid-fire banter/bickering in crazy situations dynamic from the original canon

I'm kind of playing around with the idea of writing a sequel to this Teen Wolf Derek/Stiles/Lydia fic, but I'm not actually sure how many people want to read OT3 casefic heavily featuring OC's, and also I'm in the middle of a couple of exchange fics for another fandom right now, so it'll have to wait.
N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?
I would really love to read some Jack/OMC casefic in Agent Carter, especially if it had a lot of Jack & Peggy friendship. I may have to eventually write it myself, alas.
U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Ooh, that's a hard one.
....I actually don't know if I can come up with a third. I'm kind of a multifandom fic-hopper; I have loved a lot of fics in a lot of fandoms, but there aren't all that many authors I regularly keep up on. I'll have to think about that.

Date: 2019-01-31 10:35 pm (UTC)Jack coming out to Peggy is a scenario I'd really love to see, either because he just trusts her that much, or because she stumbled onto something she wasn't meant to see and then they have to have that conversation. (Pretty sure
For something caseficcier, perhaps Jack meeting and falling for a spy on the other side, a Russian agent or something along those lines. Or perhaps a fellow spy on the same side that he ends up developing a thing with. I think it would be incredibly fun to have a Cold War spy fic with Jack and Peggy in Berlin (or somewhere similar) in the 1950s and Jack in a Man From UNCLE -esque team-up with a foreign spy with flirting and UST. I'm just too busy to write it, but someone should. XD
